It implies to me more of a free will choice that results in a certain reality. Working on the concept that reality is a consensus made up of many peoples experience. What people choose to do, watch and feel affects how their subtle planes manifest into the physical plane.

For example - choosing not to watch horror movies or movies with excessive violence and bloodshed means that those realities are not playing themselves out in the persons inner astral/dream planes, or maybe even sending those messages deeper into the inner levels of the subconscious.
