I think you should read 'madness' in a poetic sense, it is a inner freedom, a sense of anything is possible, anything can be accomplished, not being bound by rules or morals but feeling free to explore but yet act as a normal person within your society.
I think many inventions came into existance that way... if the mind can wander into the vastness of realities, it can bring back useful information that serves mankind. Who is bound by rules and laws lives by those limitations and can only wander so far, or needs drugs, alcohol or sex to break free from them, temporarily, to find the way back to the freeflowing madness that feeds us as nectar.
(and I do wonder - and that is maybe food for discussion -, if spiritual practice is one of those ways to come in contact with our creative madness?!)
I am all for a zip of madness every day, keeps boredom away :)
