MessageWithin 3 steps he must have known- this isn't working. But he kept walking, why?
Perhaps he didn't walk to show he was like Jesus. Maybe he walked to show he believed in Jesus. To make up for Peters(?) unbelief on the shores of Gallilea.
Failing in the first few seconds, maybe he thought G-d or Jesus required more trust, more proof..and he kept on walking.
He probably walked slowly. When the water got to his neck, I don't think he wavered, more proof, more trust was needed. And as his head went under water he held his breath, and walked on.. in a world where he thought there was not enough trust or faith in G-d, he kept walking.
Maybe the real reason he died, is felt, maybe he could succeed. The next step might be higher. The next step could be higher. If he succeeded he would show the glory of G-d to a disbelieving world. So even as lungs gave out he kept walking.
So in my imagination he was a good man. A faithful man and maybe in his walking he really did reach the place he meant to go.
Michael
