MessageI've always thought the line between hypnosis and meditation to be pretty fuzzy or even non-existent. Heck I don't think there is a specific line between normal "consciousness" and hypnosis, just graduations in concentration and awareness.
Watching TV, listening to music etc. can put us into a medium trance. Its certainly not a reach to say we spend most of our time in a dulled trance state.
I read an interesting case on experimental hypnosis in college. There was a psych professor who trained students in giving and getting hypnosis. He would put one under, then give instructions, while in a hypnotic state to hypnotize a 2nd person. While both were hypnotized the first person would lead the second verbally on an inner landscape journey.
Later they'd be separated and interviewed to see how well there imaginations aligned. Often it was remarkably, almostly psychically close. On one occassion the professor noticed a third person in the audience was induced in the initial hypnotic induction, an accidental 'control'.
The main two students even though far away, sensed and were upset by a third presence in there journey. All 3 had incredibly similar stories to tell of the journey.
