MessageI suppose Nagarjuna's via negativa method was to assist people into a state of non-conceptual awareness, a bit like zen koans. There's an webpage mentioning Nagarjuna's use of alchemy:

What's also interesting here is that there are methods for distlling essence on the Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya and Nirmakaya levels.
This page also mentions chudlen pills, containing the essence of the elements, which can be used to reduce reliance on food. If you live off these and also master tummo then no need to worry about mortgages and supermarket bills!
Nagarjuna also seems to have connections to underworld traditions. His Prajnaparamita teachings were retrieved fron the Naga realm within the Earth where Shakyamuni had placed them for safe keeping.
