I didn't get it too. Found one who studied with Michael Winn. But upon contemplating instruction and its intent developed something that i like and didn't bother in asking out.
The four fingers wrapped around thumb. That is traditional version.
One hand four finger wrapped around thumb, the other hand wrapped around such fist, thumb covering one opening the four fingers of the 'fist' create, pinkie covering the other opening the four finger of the 'fist' create. Then adjust to groove.
