MessageI myself don't have any judgement about it in an abstract context, and think that it can be beneficial in releasing sexual repression. The Chinese literati certainly looked at erotic drawings for pleasure, and I think naked bodies are pleasurable to view.
But several caveats:
1. It's the thought forms associated with the erotica that matters - everything is based on intention. When you are cultivating your sexual energy as in a Taoist fashion, you are not merely trying to get rid of cutural sexual repression. You are trying to interate yourself on a higher level, a sexual-spiritual level. So very soon you will leavea the realm of limited benefit from releasing cultural sexual repression. And discover that you are sending your energy body to copulate with ghosts.
2. the studies don't really show any true BENEFIT. They just show that people like it, and don't report any harm from it, i.e. they don't run out and commit sex crimes.
Well people report liking over eating fats and sugar, but that doesn't mean it is beneficial to our health. Pleasure and health are two different things.
I think pleasure is important, but are you getting the highest pleasure and are they contributing to your health?
One of the porn studies quoted is from Danmark, which also has much more open attitude about sex. So they are much less likely to become obsessive sexually, which is really the problem.
The best solution is for everyone to have more actual sex, not substitute fantasy sex. And take responsibility for the pleasure they are giving and receving, and learn that there is a lot of hidden content in sexual exchange. In this ense, sex workers are really doing double labor, and porn is just a cheap subsittute for their live work.
Love to hear more from others...
Michael
