Of course, you are totally right about framing and re-framing. There is no avoiding it, and best to make it conscious. That is one of the strengths of NLP, is that re-framing helps you get unstuck in any process, so you can continue to change. And I am big on Process, as should any good card carrying Taoist be.
Ironically, the price of the PUA cited by wife was not an argument against PUA itself - it mostly about showing the value that people place on getting laid. My wife in fact said she read many testimonials from guys who thought the PUA money was the best money they had ever spent. She was not quoting the figure to damn PUA. But I didn't have time in my post to recount everything she said.
Note I did NOT put the price of the PUA in all caps or mention that at all in the title of my posting. INVENT YOUR OWN SEX CLUB was in fact my way of describing what everyone, Taoists included, have done - invent their own rules of relating. My message was be free to invent your rules - not criticizing PUA for making up their set of rules.
But its an example of how you reframed that information differently than I or my wife intended. I was just filling in the picture, the background economics of the discussion, not intentionally trying to sabotage or attack PUA with that. I thnk men need a lot of help getting laid, that was my biggest gripe when I was younger was that women were overly programmed by relgiion and culture against healthy, open, enjoyable sex.
I did highlight that fact with David Shen - that his course was $7500. - because of the extreme hype and level of dishonest salesmanship I felt was going on. Sean was initially hiding the price, trying to get everyone so hyped that price didn't matter - an old salesman trick. And then his manipulative comeback - your price is cheap because it is worthless. TM would do the same thing - charge 7000. for a new course. Their psychology: westerners put most of their value into money, so if you charge a lot that value assumption is transfered to what you are selling, even if iit is the same as what is already available at a fraction of the price - if you practiced enough. Which is what I think was going on in that case.
I first learned about NLP at a mantak chia retreat in 1983. Gunther Weil, who trained Mantak Chia in the art of workshops, and Stephen Josephs (who has posted here recently about his getting back into kan & li) were both top NLP trainers. They were telling me how it oculd be applied to anything, presumably including spiritual development since half of the was getting rid of blocks. I saw it might have use in the psychological part.
I saw it differently for higher spiritual development - that NLP could only be applied to manipulating post-natal processes, those leading to manifest thinking and emotive processes, but not the other way, in the direction of the subtle bodies. So I challenged them: Show me how you would use NLP to achieve immortality, or a light body or any other similar manifestation? They scratched their heads for a bit and then admitted that it could not work for that goal.
You cannot reframe that which is "frameless" from perspective of this dimension.
My conclusion, then and now: the post natal self (xin) cannot manipulate the pre-natal (ling, soul)- it can only surrender to their mutual, co-creative dynamic by following the laws of creation - yin-yang, five phase, eight force, etc. which operate in BOTH domains, form and formless.
